    Hand-made carpets and rugs can take months or even years to craft, whereas machine-made ones are completed in just days or weeks.

    HAND-MADE CARPETS AND RUGS

    Traditionally crafted on looms using the finest silk, wool, and cotton—often skillfully blended for the perfect result—Kashmiri carpets and rugs provide a luxurious feel and enduring beauty.

    PERSIAN KNOT

    Kashmiri carpets and rugs are renowned for their intricate designs and exceptional durability, achieved through the use of the Persian (asymmetrical) knot, also known as the Senneh knot.

    SHAWLS & SCARFS: PASHMINA VS. CASHMERE

    Pashmina is a type of cashmere, but not all cashmere is considered pashmina.

    PASHMINA WOOL

    GRADING (microns): 12-16

    BREED (origin): The Changthangi or Pashmina goats are native to the Himalayas – Kashmir.

    CASHMERE WOOL

    GRADING (microns): < 19

    BREED (origin): Cashmere goats, from various
    breeds, are typically found in regions like Mongolia, China, and Iran.

    KASHMIR VS. CASHMERE

    Kashmir is a region in northern India, while cashmere is a type of wool obtained from the undercoat of cashmere goats.

    SHAHTOOSH – The Forbidden Shawl

    The only wool softer than pashmina was made from the endangered Tibetan antelope. Therefore, it is banned and illegal to own.

    WEAVING TECHNIQUES

    Pashminas are carefully woven by skilled artisans on traditional handlooms.

    ARI EMBROIDERY

    Ari embroidery, originating in Kashmir, India, is a traditional form of hand embroidery that utilizes a hook-like needle known as an “ari”.

    “Ari design” is commonly applied to thicker cashmere and wool.

    Sozni embroidery is a refined needlework technique on pashmina wool, showcasing reversible designs that are equally beautiful on both sides.
